My name is Harm van der Ploeg and I started Harbinger Games in 2021. I’ve always been an avid gamer and last year felt like the right time to start my own game development studio.

Company Goal

My main goal is to add fairly simple games with high replay value to the gaming market.

I will not be using Early Access nor will my games feature downloadable content. A game will release when it’s finished and aside from patches to fix bugs, games will retain their original state. If new content becomes available, this will be done through an expansion or sequel. Players can choose to opt-in to new content, but will always be able to play the original version.

Debut game: The Book of Journeys

The first game I set out to make is called The Book of Journeys (it’s a working title). A single player, offline, turn-based strategy game in which planning and party building are key to success. I played a lot of Hearthstone: Battlegrounds and Monster Train and felt I could put out a game that combines the things I like about them, whilst bringing something new to the genre.

For starters, I love the party building aspect of these games. Trying to go for certain builds, getting those specific cards to become crazy powerful, all while battling RNG.

I also like the somewhat linear no-way back structure of the game flow or Iron Man mode as it’s sometimes called.

This gives a huge spectrum from winning by a landslide to being utterly crushed, and everything in between. It makes for great replayability.

Furthermore, I really dig games that give you time to think. Many games these days have timed decision-making mechanics, which can make them fun, but also a bit stressful. Thrr

it’s these aspects of those games I want to add to the Book of Journeys.
